This Privacy Policy explains how Binja collects, uses, stores, and shares personal data when you use our platform.

1. Who we are

Binja is a housing and roommate finder platform for rental discovery, viewing requests, roommate preferences, and housing related tools.

2. Personal data we collect

Account information: name, email address, phone number where provided, password authentication details, account type, and login information.

Profile information: budget range, preferred locations, roommate preferences, move in date, occupation or student status where provided, lifestyle preferences, and other information you choose to add.

Listing information: property descriptions, images, prices, location details, availability, landlord or agent details, and related listing content.

Viewing and application information: viewing requests, messages, saved listings, application notes, and communications between users.

Technical information: IP address, device type, browser type, pages visited, session information, error logs, security logs, and approximate location derived from technical data.

Cookie and analytics information: cookie preferences, consent records, and analytics data where you consent to non essential cookies.

3. How we use personal data

We use personal data to create and manage accounts, display listings and profiles, allow users to request viewings and communicate, support roommate matching and housing preferences, improve platform performance and security, detect fraud and fake listings, provide support, send service messages, send marketing messages only where allowed, comply with legal obligations, and protect users, Binja, and the public.

4. Legal bases for processing

Contract: to provide the Binja service you request.

Legitimate interests: to secure the platform, prevent fraud, improve the service, respond to support requests, and protect users.

Consent: for optional marketing, analytics, and non essential cookies.

Legal obligation: where we need to keep records, respond to lawful requests, or comply with applicable law.

5. Who we share data with

We may share data with service providers for hosting, database, authentication, email, analytics, storage, error monitoring, and support.

We may share data with other users where needed for listings, viewing requests, roommate matching, messages, and housing related interactions.

We may share data with landlords, agents, or listing owners where you request a viewing, apply for a listing, or choose to share your details.

We may share data with authorities or legal parties where required by law, safety, fraud prevention, dispute handling, or lawful request. We do not sell your personal data.

6. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside Malta or the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we will use appropriate safeguards required by data protection law, such as approved contractual protections or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

7. Cookies and tracking

Binja uses strictly necessary cookies to make the platform work, including authentication and security cookies.

Analytics, marketing, and similar non essential cookies should only be used after you give consent. You can change your cookie choices through cookie settings on the platform.

8. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected.

Account data is kept while your account is active. Viewing requests and housing activity may be kept for a reasonable period for service, support, fraud prevention, and dispute handling. Security logs are kept for a limited period to protect the platform. Marketing consent is kept until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe. Legal records are kept where required by law.

When data is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it where possible.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on the situation, you may have the right to access your personal data, correct inaccurate data, request deletion, restrict processing, object to processing, request data portability, withdraw consent, and complain to the Malta Information and Data Protection Commissioner.

10. Account deletion

You may request account deletion by contacting us. Some information may be kept where necessary for legal, security, fraud prevention, or dispute reasons.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. However, no online platform can guarantee complete security.

You should use a strong password, protect your login details, and contact us if you suspect account misuse.

12. Children

Binja is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly provide the platform to children.

13. Automated decisions

Binja may use preferences and filters to help users discover listings or potential roommate matches. We do not intend to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on users.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will be posted on this page.
